You Belong Here

ISBD is an open and inclusive Society that builds its strength on connecting  and empowering people to advance the understanding and treatment of bipolar disorder through collaboration.  This collaboration takes many forms, including our early- mid-career committee’s community of practice, our European Bipolar Alliance, our task forces, our women’s initiative group, and through supporting and promoting the World Bipolar Day campaign.

We welcome and encourage involvement from all geographic regions, genders, degreed programs, and career stages and tracks.  We seek to actively embed the voice of those with lived experience of bipolar disorder through our lived experience council and embrace their expertise through the Experts by Experience track in our conference.

To understand more about what it means to be part of our community, please see the video from Professor Erin Michalak below.

Community Building Across Organizations

ISBD is also working to bring the collective wisdom of those from numerous organizations working in the mood disorder space, along with partner organizations with related missions, together to

  • Create greater awareness of the landscape of work being done in the field
  • Address funding challenges in bipolar disorder research
  • Develop a common set of goals, objectives and initiatives for the field which can create synergies and increase effectiveness of these organizations.

To this end, the ISBD has invited some of the leading organizations in the field to a summit to be held in conjunction with our 2026 ISBD Annual Conference and we are eager to share the results with our community.
