Types of ISBD Awards
ISBD Awards are generally separated into 2 categories: Honorary Awards and Early-Mid Career Awards.
Honorary Awards
Honorary Awards are generally given to recognize accomplishments over the span of a career and include the Mogens Schou Award, Robert Post Mentoring Award, and Kupfer-Frank Distinguished Contribution Award, the latter recognizing contributions that have made an indelible and lasting positive impact on ability of the ISBD to achieve its mission. These Awards principally serve to provide role models and honor achievements.
Early Mid-Career Awards
Early Mid-Career Awards are given to encourage those at an early career stage to dedicate future studies and clinical practice to bipolar disorder, and they do this by providing opportunities to engage with colleagues, network, present their work to a professional audience, and build their CV. The Samuel Gershon Junior Investigator Awards, and more recently, the EMCC Travel Awards, fall into this category. The Society has also previously offered Best Poster Awards as well, albeit without travel support.
Best Article of the Year Award
The ISBD also collaborates with the Editorial Leadership of our Journal, Bipolar Disorders (BDJ), to recognize work being published there. These Awards reflect excellence in contributions to the bipolar literature published in BDJ in the previous year.
