Opportunity to Participate in Research Project Development of a Brief Screening Measure for Bipolar Disorder in Children and Adolescents Virginia Commonwealth University is developing a screening measure to identify children (ages 7-15) who could benefit from further assessment for pediatric bipolar disorder. The purpose of this screener is to give pediatricians, school guidance counselors, and mental health workers a tool to identify children who may be affected by pediatric bipolar disorder. Results from this screener can be used to refer children to specialists for complete assessment for the disorder. The purpose of this study is to ensure that the screener can successfully differentiate children with a diagnosis of bipolar disorder from other children. Children ages 7-15 who have received a diagnosis of bipolar disorder within the last 12 months are eligible to participate in this study. Both the diagnosed child and one parent will be asked to complete some questionnaires and a brief telephone interview. Once questionnaires and phone interview are completed, payment of $20.00 will be mailed to the child in appreciation for participation. An additional payment of $10.00 will be included if your child's teacher fills out two questionnaires. For details, questions, or to enroll in the study, email Colleen Quinn at caquinn@mail1.vcu.edu or call toll free 1-877-860-2800 and enter the access code 278828.
