   Conference in Sydney Australia:

Sixth International Conference on Bipolar Disorder:

SAVE THE DATE: The 6th International Conference on Bipolar Disorder has been set for Thursday through Saturday, June 16-18, 2005. This conference will be held at the David Lawrence Convention Center in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA.

Highlights of the 2003 Conference:

We are happy to report that the 5th International Conference on Bipolar Disorder was a tremendous success, with approximately 1000 in attendance. The many esteemed presenters offered a wealth of information on topics ranging from Neuroscience and Genetics to Patient Advocacy. I am also happy to report that the ISBD board and general membership meeting was well attended, with nearly 100 participants.
The board and membership meeting minutes, as well as slides from the presentation, are now available.

We will continue to post coverage of the conference in the weeks and months to come.

Highlights of the 2001 Conference:

ISBD Collaborates in IVth International Conference on Bipolar Disorders

The ISBD presented the first “Mogens Schou Awards for Distinguished Contributions” to the field of bipolar disorders. Three awards were presented in recognition of Professor Schou’s establishment of the first effective treatment for bipolar disorder and his contributions to the field of psychiatry and the treatment of patients with bipolar disorders over the last 50 years. Professor Schou is the Honorary Lifetime President of the ISBD. Professor Schou, himself, was presented with the Founder’s Award. Jules Angst, MD, was given the Mogens Schou Award for Research for his lifetime contributions. Vada and Ted Stanley received the Mogens Schou Award for Distinguished Service to the field of bipolar disorders. E. Fuller Torrey, MD, Executive Director of the Stanley Foundation accepted their award.

Over 800 individuals attended this year’s conference, representing 32 countries. Forty-seven speakers presented at the conference, covering topics such as new approaches to treatment; recent findings in pharmacotherapy; neuroscience; child and adolescent bipolar treatment; multisite treatment sites; regulatory issues in developing drug treatments; and for the first time, advocacy issues.
