ISBD Supported Memberships for Psychiatric Trainees
Membership Applications are closed for the current year
About the Awards
The International Society for Bipolar Disorder (ISBD) is committed to promoting awareness and education on bipolar disorders among mental health professionals worldwide. As a step toward meeting this goal in the global community, the ISBD offers psychiatric trainees a complimentary one-year membership* in the Society in order to enhance knowledge of bipolar disorder among this group, narrow the gap between bipolar research and clinical practice, and ultimately to improve diagnosis, treatment and outcomes for patients with bipolar disorder.
These supported memberships are open to psychiatric residents, postgraduate students and junior faculty up to the Assistant Professor or equivalent level with less than five years as faculty in their career trajectory. ISBD seeks candidates who show potential to contribute to the Society, its mission and goals beyond the scope of sponsorship.
As part of the membership, awardees receive:
- a one-year subscription in hardcopy and online to the journal Bipolar Disorders: An International Journal of Psychiatry and Neurosciences (eight issues per year plus supplements)
- one-year e-mail subscription to the ISBD Global, the Society’s quarterly newsletter
- access to ISBD online services for members (i.e. membership directory)
The ISBD also offers all trainees an opportunity to apply for other awards, including the Samuel Gershon Awards for Junior Investigators for original research submissions and an ISBD Research Fellowship Award.
In keeping with the Society’s expanded mission to assist trainees in underserved countries, we seek to support 70% of trainees from developing countries.
