ISBD Trainee Programs & Educational Opportunities

studentsIn addition to the Society's Biennial Meetings, the Society has identified a need to encourage trainees and junior faculty to pursue a career in bipolar disorders and now has three programs that support this important objective: The Psychiatric Trainee Support Program, the Samuel Gershon Awards for Junior Investigators and the International Society for Bipolar Disorders Fellowship Award

We have also awarded 10 Travel Fellowships to Junior Investigators to attend the 3rd Biennial Meeting of the ISBD in Delhi and Agra, India in January 2008.

ISBD Psychiatric Trainee Support Program

The International Society for Bipolar Disorder (ISBD) is committed to promoting awareness and education on bipolar disorders among mental health professionals worldwide. As a step toward meeting this goal in the global community, the ISBD has offered psychiatric trainees complimentary memberships in the Society since this program was launched in 2001.

Samuel Gershon Awards for Junior Investigators

The Samuel Gershon Awards, named in honor of the past ISBD President and pioneering lithium researcher, are 4 awards for unpublished original research papers submitted by junior investigators and offer a travel grant to present the award winning work either in poster or oral presentations at ISBD biennial and affiliated meetings.

ISBD Fellowship Award

The International Society for Bipolar Disorder (ISBD) recognizes the vital role of developing the next generation of leaders in the field of bipolar disorder.  Because of this need, the Society created the ISBD Fellowship Award.  This award is limited to direct support of the applicant and cannot be used for institutional overhead. Now in its third year, the fellowship program has offered three $20,000 fellowship awards to support research in the field of bipolar disorders.
