How Your Gift Helps
The ISBD works to foster international collaboration, education, and research in bipolar disorders and, consequently, to advance the treatment of bipolar disorders and improve outcomes and quality of life for those affected. In pursuit of these goals, the ISBD is constantly engaged in enhancing and disseminating research and information about bipolar disorders for patients, family members, and mental health professionals alike.
Approximately 79 cents of every dollar donated to ISBD go directly to supporting ISBD’s educational programs. Many of these programs are ongoing, and additional programs are always in development. Just a few of ISBD's most recent and continuing efforts are highlighted below:
- Development of an online series of educational articles for patients and families seeking information about bipolar disorder;
- Production of an educational DVD that integrates physician and patient perspectives in introducing terms, concepts, and diagnosis and treatment options for bipolar disorder;
- Ongoing initiation of new research task forces, most recently in the areas of clinical trial design, biomarkers, and theragnostics;
- Organization of a series of biennial conferences, which bring international experts together to exchange current data and research initiatives in the field;
- Support of junior psychiatric investigators through fellowships and grants designed to reward and sustain commitment to the study of bipolar disorders among future leaders in the field.
