www.isbd2014.org

The meeting featured 8 keynote talks, 32 submitted symposia, 7 early morning brainstorming sessions, 12 oral communications, 3 pre-conference courses, 2 pre-conference regional satellites, and an advocacy program, including a session in Korean language for local delegates.  The meeting also featured the ISBD Samuel Gershon Awards, an art exhibit, and an outstanding opening ceremony with a local Korean percussion ensemble.

A unique feature of the meeting this year was the arrangement of our submitted parallel symposia into a number of different tracks focused on certain topics, allowing attendees to follow a particular thread throughout the meeting.  There were a total of five tracks and they included Treatment, Clinical Manifestation, Neurobiology, Imaging, and Cultural tracks.

Keynote speakers featured in the program included:

  • L. Trevor Young:  The Role of Biomarkers
  • Jun Soo Kwon:  Neuroimaging Studies
  • Tadafumi Kato:  Neurobiological Findings
  • Lars Vedel Kessing:  Early Intervention
  • Michael Berk:  Novel Therapies
  • Flavio Kapczinski:  Clinical Staging (ISBD Task Force Report)
  • Francesc Colom:  Psychoeducation
  • Muffy Walker:  Advocacy

The meeting also served as the kick-off for the first ever World Bipolar Day (WBD), which followed on March 30th, the birthday of Vincent Van Gogh, and was organized by the ISBD in collaboration with the Asian Network of Bipolar Disorder (ANBD) and International Bipolar Foundation (IBPF).

The ISBD Meeting in Seoul was attended by 813 delegates from over 50 countries, representing 5 continents.  The meeting was a great success and we must recognize and thank ISBD Korea for their support.  The meeting was truly the result of a global collaboration and we were pleased to have such a strong turnout in Seoul.

(Meeting supported by Sunovion [Dainippon Sumitomo Pharma], GSK, AZ China, and the local Korean affiliates of Janssen, AZ Pfizer, and Otsuka.)
